The project partnership has a wide range of expertise in the relevant areas of intellectual disability, adult education and training, autonomy and self-determination. In addition, the partnership has a good regional balance and complements each other’s experiences. They have as well a wide network of contacts for dissemination among adult education providers.

The partners of the original TOPSIDE project and its successor, TOPSIDE+, are listed below.

O Inclusion Europe is the European network of associations representing people with intellectual disabilities and their families in 36 European countries. Since1988, Inclusion Europe seeks policy mainstreaming, equal opportunities and full participation of people with intellectual disabilities in all aspects of society.

Founded in 1957, ADAPEI du Bas Rhin is a territorial Association in Alsace (France) of parents of people with intellectual disabilities and their friends.
1.000 adults supported in 23 services, in companies, in society and 450 employees regrouped around 20 professions.
Associative values are

  • Respect of the person’s dignity
  • Quality of the accommodation and the person’s project
  • Right to progress at their own pace
  • Involvement and full access to citizenship
  • Inclusion in the common environment

The association has been involved in European programs since 20 years in order to promote the integration of people with intellectual disabilities.

TOPSIDE+

Founded in 1985, FENACERCI is a national federation which represents almost 50   cooperatives for the education and rehabilitation of people with special needs in Portugal. These facilities provide direct or indirect support to  approximately 5000 children, youths and adults with mental and multiple disability.

FENACERCI is a Public Service Organization and its main objectives are:

  • to promote the recognition of the rights of mentally disabled citizens,
  • together with their interests and those of their families;
  • to ensure that the care which is provided for them is always based on criteria of quality, dignity and appropriateness;
  • to discuss with political forces in central government and in other organizations with regard to both legislation and financial support, in order to improve the quality of services provided by Cerci’s;
  • to inform people and to motivate in them a change of attitude which will make it easier for people who are different to be integrated.

Making society aware that the integration of these people is a virtue to be defended, that their differences merit respect, and that their individual potentials are worthy consideration and should be made use of, these will continue to constitute the main thrust of FENACERCI’s development work.

TOPSIDE+

Lebenshilfe Germany has more than 135.000 members, who are organised in 527 local and district associations of Lebenshilfe. Every federal state has its own Lebenshilfe state association. The federal association campaigns nationally for the concerns of people with mental disabilities and their families; its offices are located in Marburg and Berlin.

Committed to the self-help idea, Lebenshilfe is an independent and charitable association for people with intellectual disabilities, their families, experts and friends. Lebenshilfe is, on the one hand, the biggest representative of the interests of people with mental disabilities and their families and, on the other hand, offers more than 3.200 services and facilities specific support in all areas of life. The work of Lebenshilfe is supported nationally by a large number of volunteers and salaried employees.

TOPSIDE+

The main objective of society “Viltis” is to be the main driving force, ensuring  equal and full participation of people with developmental disabilities in the life of society, to represent and protect the interests of these people and their families.

Lithuanian society of persons with mental disability “Viltis” from the very first days of its foundation in November 1989 bravely stated to return people with developmental disability into society. Since then the organization has initiated progressive reforms which were difficult to implement in practice.

Creating a network of services in the community for people with developmental disabilities and their families, the society “Viltis” constantly sought and seeks a dialogue with  legislative and executive governmental institutions, with relative organizations in Lithuania and abroad, as well as with the public.
