What is the objective of the exercise?
This exercise helps to learn how to notice and identify good qualities.
What is the method to be used?
The trainer asks the participants to draw a self-portrait, to write his/her name and 3 qualities / skills /characteristics above the portrait a participant is proud of and which they are doing best and other people like most in him/her. Later everyone shows his portrait and reads the qualities he has written. If some participants feel difficult to perform the task, he can not think of good things about himself/herself, the trainer together with the group tells what they like in this person and suggests to write about it on the sheet of paper if the participant agrees with the opinion expressed.
Later on the trainer distributes the sheets among the participants, on which various characteristics are listed (shown below). The trainer asks participants to choose 8 characteristics, which, in their opinion, describes them best and write it at his/her portrait. Best of all, if the trainer together with participants discuss characteristics before the task, explain them to those who do not understand. When participants perform tasks, everybody shares their thoughts.
Exercise option. Participants may work in pairs – in this case, a pair of partners is asked to select 8 characteristics which describe one of the friend in pair. Later on during the discussion it is possible to discuss how we perceive other people, whether they always see us the way we see ourselves, why sometimes our perception of “Me” is different from how others perceive us, why it is important to be liked by others, what the words „to be yourself” mean.
